How to use period pants

Okay, so you’re considering to buy your first pair of period pants and have no idea how it works. How do you use them? Can you wear your period pants all day and are they fully leak-proof? Well, now is your chance to get all your questions answered. So let’s get started!

First things first – you might be wondering… are your period pants any good for your flow?

For the endless spotting , the clots and the clumps, the sort-of-discharge , sort-of-blood, the is-this-period-over-or-what, and everything in between – there’s a pair of period pants for all kinds of flow.

intimawear by Bodyform®   comes in various styles and sizes  with different levels of absorbency to match your needs. From your heaviest flow  to your lightest  - you can be rest assured you’ll be protected whatever you do so that nothing can stop you from living fearlessly!

But how exactly do you use period pants? Well, let’s find out…

So, how do you use period-proof underwear?

Wearing period pants is easy.

From the outside, they look just like any other pair of underwear that you might find in your drawer, but on the inside, the gusset (that’s the bottom of the pants that goes between your legs and rests against your vulva) comes with absorbent layers  that lock in every liquid. They can manage everything from blood to discharge, sweat to after-sex fluids, and anything in between.

Pop a fresh pair on in the morning after a shower or when you’re getting ready for the day. You can wear your period pants just like you would wear a regular pair of underwear – it’s that simple! There’s no need to wear extra period products – they’re all you need. Just match your underwear to your flow that day and you’re all good to go.

You can wear them for up to 12 hours – so they’re great for daytime wear or as part of your night-time period care routine. With leak-proof underwear, you can be confident and let your body do its thing – while your pants do the rest.

Can you wear your period-proof underwear all day?

Period underwear can be worn all day (and night) however, this depends on your flow and whether you’re wearing period pants with the right level of absorbency for what you need.

If you have a heavy flow – with clots and all – our Hipster period underwear for heavy flow  can hold fluid in securely for up to 12 hours, so they’re the perfect thing to wear all day and even overnight while on your period. Just make sure to change into a new pair before you go to bed so that your beauty sleep is not disturbed by any accidental leaks while you snooze.

For days when you have a lighter flow, our Brazilian period pants are a comfortable option that will leave you feeling dry and confident throughout the day. They’re perfect for days when you’re spotting and bleeding between periods or for dealing with discharge during the rest of your menstrual cycle .

It can be quite a daunting experience to start wearing period pants when you’ve only worn period pads or tampons  all your life. If you’re anxious about wearing your leak-proof underwear outside, you may want to test them on a day where you’re at home first, so you can make sure you feel completely comfortable.

Do you need to wear other period products with your period pants?

Your period pants should be more than enough to take care of your flow so there’s no need to take any extra precautions. Some people do pair up their period pants with other period products such as a tampon or menstrual cup to feel extra protected – so it’s totally up to you.  Remember, there’s no right or wrong way when it comes to period care.

If you want to double the protection – for example, if you tend to have a heavier flow, want extra protection during night-time or feel anxious to try period pants on their own – it’s 100% okay to wear a tampon or menstrual cup  with your period underwear. The good part is that you don’t need to commit to just one! Depending on your flow, you can always mix and match to personalise your period products  and absorbencies throughout your period. After all, it’s about doing what you need to feel more confident and comfortable.

Can you wear period pants at school?

Period pants can be a super convenient choice to wear at school. Unlike a pad or tampon, there’s no need to change them frequently throughout the day. You can literally slip them on and forget about them until the evening (so no more coming up with excuses for bathroom visits mid-class or wasting your precious break time trekking to the toilet). If you’re on your period, just pop them on first thing in the morning before heading to school and let go of your period worries (the only thing you should be worrying about is your next maths test!).

But will someone be able to tell that I’m wearing period pants?

If you’ve just started your periods and are still trying to navigate the world of having a menstrual cycle, the last thing you may want is to draw attention to the fact that you’re menstruating. Period pants look and feel just like normal underwear, which means nobody can tell if you’re wearing them. So, wave goodbye to any anxiety you might have while in the changing room getting ready for your sports class –your period pants have got you covered!

Period pants are easy and comfortable to wear and a great alternative option to have. Whether your period is messy, light, or unpredictable at times, you can choose period pants that work with your body and your flow.
